Kia ora from Room 14!

With every Kowhaiwhai pattern there is a meaning. For us in Room 14,
we created a kowhaiwhai pattern with our own meaning from our lens.
Here is mine. The ‘BIG’ koru represents me, the three other koru’s represents a life,
they are my siblings. The red fence type image is my church family.
The orange diamonds are my stepping stone into the future.
The purple flower represents Yendarra school.
The two blue sport balls represent, my desire to do sport.

This term we celebrate and acknowledge all our hard work that we have achieved.  Over the past 7 weeks we have looked at the importance of kowhaiwhai, making connections to our very own whare - ‘He Taonga Aroha’ we have also celebrated Samoan language week.  In week 7 and 8, we have looked at identifying facts of Matariki and the southern lights. The reappearance of Matariki, happens in late May, early June it signals the Maori New year.  We are using our devices and our researching skills to understand the Maori calendar better (The Maramataka).

Room 14 joined the other year 5 & 6’s who all go to the whare kai (kitchen) and the mahimara (garden)  In the wharekai we prepare, chop, cook and bake. In the garden we harvest, dig soil, plant healthy vegetables.  We thank our lovely volunteers. It's fun!
