Do You Come To School Every Day?

We believe coming to school each day is important for many reasons.

Last term we celebrated those children who have not had any days away with a sports extravaganza hosted by Counties Manukau Sport. It was amazing to see so many children who come to school every day, including 5 year olds who have only just started this year!

Room 19 have come up with some reasons why coming to school each day is so important.

• because my friends and teachers are trying to come to school every day too
• so that when I get a job I will 'Be the BEST I can' and turn up to work each day

Coming to school is fun and we don't want to miss out on;

• sport's training
• learning on the chrome books and ipads
• music academy when we learn the ukulele and guitar
• learning Tongan, Samoan, Kapa haka and Cook Island dance to prepare for fiafia 
• catching up with my friends

Coming to school is so much fun when you are all here with us. This term we will celebrate those children who have not had any days away… will that be you?

Money Week at Yendarra!

At Yendarra School we are celebrating in lots of ways!

In every classroom we are learning about New Zealand currency, how people earn money and how people spend money. We are also learning that you can save money in different ways!

There are special games at morning tea time in the library and some of our parents have been coming to school to extend their knowledge of money with our special Whanau classes.

We are a bronze ENVIRO-SCHOOL!

Over the past few years everyone at Yendarra School has worked very hard to look after the environment. We have been recycling paper and cardboard. Our food scraps are put into compost bins and then the compost is used in our beautiful gardens. So we decided to invite Haley Lowe, our Enviroschools facilitator to visit us so we could reflect on our journey.

We welcomed Haley to our school with a beautiful waiata sung by Room 18.

Then some wonderful Year 5 and 6 students represented our school and shared our journey with Haley. We even took a tour around the school so we could show Haley what an amazing school we have! She loved seeing our gardens and beautiful student artwork that we have displayed around our school.

Haley loved looking at our beautiful mural which shares our school vision with the world.

Our reflection team talk to Haley and tell her why Yendarra Students are empowered!

“Wow!” said Haley “I would like to announce that Yendarra School is a Bronze Enviroschool!”

She gave us a lovely certificate and we all cheered. What an exciting moment!

We will keep working hard so that we can become a Silver Enviroschool.

Yendarra Tamariki Meet The Police!

The local police have heard what AMAZING tamariki we have at Yendarra School so they came by for a visit. It was great to see the police officers at school during lunch time because they got to talk to lots of children and answer their questions.

Some of the questions that we asked the police officers were:

Do you always have to wear a uniform?

Why is your uniform blue?

How did you become a police officer?

What is inside your police car?

What equipment do you have on your belt?

What do you use the equipment for?

Can we please see your handcuffs?

We loved listening to all of their answers! It made us think… maybe we could be police officers when we grow up!

Some of the police officers even joined in the senior school hockey game. Other children were spectators and cheered them on.

It is always lots of fun to see the police officers at Yendarra School. Thank you for everything that you do for us because you help to keep us safe. We hope to see you again soon!

Learning about Statistics

As part of learning about statistics, Room 21 have been learning to gather and graph evidence using different graphs.

After conducting surveys and gathering evidence within our own classroom, we decided to venture out and gather evidence from our neighbourhood.

We asked the question;

What is the most popular car colour on Bairds Road?

'what colour will this car be?’

We used a tally chart to record our observations.

We graphed our results and discovered that white and silver are the most popular car colour and yellow was the least popular at the time of our evidence gathering.
